Wireless Sensor Nodes for Building Information Modeling (BIM)

A digital twin describes a representation of a physical object with all its properties in the digital world. They require a vast amount of sensors to acquire the current state (eg the temperature distribution) of the object (eg a building) and map the information into the digital model. This talk describes wireless sensor nodes based on backscatter technology to acquire the necessary information. All sensor nodes can be operated without a battery. Hence eliminating the need for maintenance of the sensor nodes. Furthermore, this feature enables the integration of the sensors in hard-to-reach places and even to integrate them into the structure of the building.
