DARPA Traveling Wave Energy Enhancement Devices (TWEED)
Field breakdown, transit-time effects, parasitic capacitances, and propagation losses limit the power and high-frequency performance of electronic devices such as magnonic memory, surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters, and THz solid-state amplifiers. Traveling Wave Energy Enhancement Devices (TWEED) is a DARPA Microsystems Exploration Program that is developing multi-physics approaches to produce gain and higher output power in solid-state electronic, acoustoelectric (AE), and spin-wave devices through novel traveling- or coupled-wave interactions. A program overview including technical approaches and recent results from representative devices will be presented.
