Reconfigurable Holographic MIMO Channel Estimation and Beamforming

Recent technological advances in materials and communications engineering have paved the way for the integration of reconfigurable reflectarrays and transmitarrays into wireless systems. Prior works have considered idealized models for multi-antenna communication with reflectarrays that do not include coupling, polarization, or realistic reconfigurability. In this talk, we will address the issue of modeling reflectarrays in a multiple-input multiple-output wireless system by using electromagnetic simulations. We will also discuss how realistic models can be leveraged to find optimal reconfiguration codebooks for both channel estimation and holographic communications.
