A Digital-Perception Radar Platform for Automotive Safety

mm-Wave radars are the sensor of choice in current and future automotive safety-critical applications. MIMO techniques combined with a Digital-Code-Modulation architecture promise to push the performance boundaries of current radar sensors, providing resilience towards interference while solving the most challenging radar use-cases. This talk discusses the challenges and opportunities to design a fully integrated digital-intensive radar platform. The Uhnder automotive qualified Radar-On-Chip is made of 12 transmitters and 8×2 receivers, resulting in up to 192 MIMO virtual receivers, and relies on built-in processors and hardware acceleration to enable optimization with deep learning neural networks and artificial intelligence (AI).
