Design Methodologies for Low-Power Frequency Synthesizers

The designer should be able to estimate the power dissipation and chip area of a frequency synthesizer that meets specifications on tuning range, phase noise, or jitter before developing circuits. The choice of architecture should be well-justified, and demonstrably optimal for the intended use. The first cut design of architecture and circuits should emerge from fundamental expressions. The total design effort should be minimal, with little need for iteration.
