System Simulation and Modeling for Broadband Applications

The rapid increase in internet traffic has driven innovation in high-speed links for data centers. As data rates rise, channel loss leads to Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI), requiring spectrally efficient modulation (eg PAM-4) and advanced equalization techniques. These links also face dispersion, discontinuities, and crosstalk, necessitating solutions for data-rates beyond 200Gb/s. Over time, equalization has evolved from analog to DSP-based all-digital solutions, with power efficiency becoming critical due to cooling costs in data centers. This talk will provide an overview of digital equalization, its history, and future trends for high-speed links.
