Will Light Communication be the coming 6G?
As we approach the dawn of 6G, the boundaries of wireless communication are being redefined. Light communication, or LiFi, presents a paradigm shift in connectivity by leveraging visible light, infrared, and ultraviolet spectrums for data transmission. With its promise of ultra-high-speed data rates, inherent security, and the potential to alleviate the spectrum crunch faced by traditional radio-frequency systems, LiFi emerges as a strong contender for shaping the 6G landscape.
This talk will explore the transformative potential of light communication in realizing the ambitious goals of 6G—ultra-low latency, massive connectivity, and seamless integration with the Internet of Everything (IoE). We will delve into its technical capabilities, innovative applications in smart cities, healthcare, and autonomous systems, and its synergy with other emerging technologies such as terahertz waves, AI, and quantum networks.
However, the question remains: will light communication overcome its technological challenges, such as line-of-sight dependency and infrastructure adaptation, to become the backbone of 6G? By examining current research, industry trends, and standardization efforts, this presentation aims to provide a roadmap for how LiFi could transition from a niche technology to a cornerstone of the next generation of wireless communication.
Join me as I illuminate the path forward and explore whether the future connectivity and 6G will indeed lie in the light.
