Sustainable Materials-Enabled Microwave Sensors: Are We Considering Manufacturing?

An overview of chipped, chipless, and antenna-based microwave sensors exploiting artificial materials will be presented. Beyond their runtime energy consumption, the cradle-to-grave sustainability of such microwave devices will be assessed through life cycle assessment (LCA), providing guidelines for sustainable RF design. The talk will cover established microwave materials in novel device configurations, and emerging materials including biodegradable, all-polymer, and artificial dielectrics/conductors as sensitive microwave detectors.
