Broadband mm-Wave ICs for Joint Sensing and Communication Across 30–100GHz
Joint communication and sensing utilizing wide bandwidth and additional spectral bands within the 30–100GHz range presents exciting opportunities for 6G networks. It can enable improved spectrum utilization and enhanced environmental awareness. However, achieving frequency agility in a universal array interface that seamlessly operates across licensed, unlicensed, and shared bands poses significant challenges. This tutorial presents energy efficient techniques to extend the bandwidth of integrated circuits in silicon to address the frequency range, and presents an ultra-wideband beamforming transmitter architecture for scalable arrays covering 36–91GHz, operating over the frequency range from 5G FR2 to W-band and offering a fractional bandwidth of 87%.
